Introducing WOLF x Liberty: Artistry in Motion for Your Most Treasured Pieces

Iconic design, craftsmanship, sustainability and innovation.

These are the four pillars the foundations of WOLF 1834 and Liberty rest upon, and the reason why these two renowned brands are  collaborating to celebrate Liberty’s 150 years of existence.

WOLF x LIBERTY is the result of nearly two years of hard work, culminating in exquisite range of jewellery boxes, travel cases and portfolios that perfectly embodies both the handmade precision of WOLF’s expertise and Liberty’s seminal designs.

While WOLF have never been short of great designs for their jewellery storage options, the chance to collaborate with a brand like Liberty was a great opportunity to take it to a whole new level.

Pere Bruach, Design Manager at Liberty explains it best: “The iconic ‘Ianthe’- a Liberty design in the Art Nouveau style from the early 20th century - has been carefully engineered and embossed onto sustainable leather. Alongside it, the 1930s-inspired floral print ‘Julia’ brings a nostalgic, quintessentially Liberty feel to the collection.”

For the Ianthe range, the aim, through the gorgeous embossing, was to add another sensory element to the products, as its very tactile application entices anyone who sees it to want to touch it.

Meanwhile, the Julia print on the inside of the jewellery boxes has simply increased the level of what WOLF already had. The use of this specific design was one that was carefully considered, ensuring it was not used throughout the entirety of the product, but rather placing it with a solid pink lining to create a beautiful internal colour palette.

With a clear aim to use sustainable and bio-based materials for the exterior of the collection, stumbling blocks needed to be overcome. This is why a great deal of both innovation and problem solving was needed to achieve the stunning patterns on the Ianthe range to adorn the Navy and Burgundy collections. Normally used on animal-based leather, the embossing technique needed the right material to achieve the same effect, and the bio-based material used ended up being ideal for this.

Despite this breakthrough, the placement of Ianthe pattern had to be meticulously designed by both WOLF and Liberty, with each panel design needing to be articulated to fit the space to ensure the pattern flowed gracefully across the boxes.

As for the Julia pattern, this was the first time WOLF had ever printed such an iconic and detailed pattern onto Ultrasuede lining, meaning the process had to be tested and adjusted multiple times to finally achieve the crisp print which adorns the inside of the final products.

In fact, everything, from the logo application and placement to the size of the stitching, has been considered and then reconsidered by the designs and development teams of both brands.

The hard work was worth it, however, with the final products seamlessly encapsulating the vision of WOLF and Liberty, and everyone involved walking away with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
