Athos Safes: FAQs
What is UL certification?
UL certification is an independent safety certification provided by Underwriters Laboratories (UL), an organization that tests products against recognized safety and quality standards. For safes, UL testing assesses resistance to burglary and fire protection.
Why does UL certification matter when buying a safe?
Independent certification helps provide confidence that a safe has been tested against recognized security standards. For valuable collections, including luxury watches and jewelry, choosing a UL certified safe provides reassurance that construction, resistance and protection have been rigorously assessed.
What does Eurograded mean?
Eurograde certification is a European classification system that measures a safe’s resistance to burglary attempts. Safes are tested using physical attack methods and specialized tools to measure how long it takes to breach them, generating a rating that indicates the level of security provided against forced entry. A higher Eurograde rating reflects a greater level of resistance.
Is UL certification the same as Eurograde certification?
No, UL and Eurograde certifications are separate certification systems with different testing standards and classifications. Eurograde focuses primarily on burglary resistance within European security classifications, while UL certification includes testing for burglary resistance and fire protection.
Athos safes combine both Eurograde and UL certifications to provide a broader level of independently tested protection. Together, these recognized standards reflect the attention to detail behind Athos safes, giving collectors confidence when protecting their most valuable watches, jewelry and personal collections.
What is a Eurograde 1 rating?
A Eurograde 1 rating is a widely recognised European standard that refers to a specific level of resistance. This type of certification means a safe is sufficient enough to protect up to £10,000 in cash or £100,000 worth of valuables depending on insurer guidelines.
Features of Eurograde 1 safes include:
-
Thick, steel walls and doors
-
Solid, multi-way steel locking bolts
-
Advanced anti-drill plates and hardened manganese steel
- High-security locking systems, such mechanical combination or digital locks
- Anchoring capabilities
- Professional-grade burglary resistance
